Transportation Secretary Lopez Inspects MCIAA Preparations for ASEAN 2026
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez inspected the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) this Friday, February 20, to get a glimpse of the preparations being made at the airport for ASEAN 2026. This follows the President’s directive to ensure that airports in the country are ready for the arrival of delegates and dignitaries from different countries for ASEAN. Among those who went around include some officials of the Department of Transportation, Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) General Manager Julius Neri, Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp (ACAC) MCIA General Manager Ricia Montejo and some of their officials. Among those visited by Secretary Lopez include the ASEAN Operations Center at MCIA, Terminal 1 and 2, holding areas or VIP lounge that can be used by delegates and dignitaries, as well as the new General Aviation Terminal Building that is expected to be completed by April 2026. “It is important that we be prepared for the arrival of our colleagues in ASEAN, because according to the President, we need to let them feel the Filipino culture, warm reception and generosity of Filipinos while they are here in the Philippines,” according to Secretary Lopez.
