Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) bags 100% Compliance Rating in DOE’s Government Energy Management Program

08 April 2024 – Mactan, Cebu – The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) announced that it has recently been commended by the Department of Energy for a 100% compliance rating under the Government Energy Management Program.

The Government Energy Management Program acknowledges government agencies that demonstrate outstanding achievements in energy management and conservation.

In a spot-checking conducted by the DOE this year, MCIAA got the highest rating out of 29 other National Government Agencies and GOCCs.

MCIAA’s proactive initiatives in reducing energy consumption, implementing renewable energy solutions, and promoting environmental sustainability were factors highly considered for the program. As a reward, DOE presented MCIAA with LED bulbs as a token of recognition.

“This recent recognition reflects MCIAA’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and our pursuit of energy efficiency in airport operations,” said MCIAA General Manager Julius G. Neri.

According to Nicarter Rivas, MCIAA Senior Public Relations Officer, the agency has a dedicated Energy Conservation Officer to oversee the implementation of a series of innovative energy-saving initiatives, including LED lighting systems, and energy-efficient equipment throughout the building’s premises.

These efforts have not only reduced the agency’s carbon footprint but also resulted in substantial cost savings for the organization.

The 100% Government Energy Management Program compliance serves as a testament to MCIAA’s dedication to sustainable development and its role as a responsible steward of the environment.
