MCIAA, along with its Pollution Control Committee, conducted its annual coastal clean-up at Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City, on May 31, 2024. The event brought together 120 volunteers—40 MCIAA staff and 80 students from Sto. Niño Mactan College (30 from the Tourism Department and 50 from the Criminology Department)—all committed to environmental conservation. Volunteers collected and segregated six to seven tons of marine debris, including plastics, Styrofoam, bottles, cans, and wood litter. After the clean-up, MCIAA held an educational session on comprehensive solid waste management, covering the effects of improper waste disposal on health and the environment, as well as current environmental issues in the Philippines. Participants also learned about the decomposition lifespan of various materials and were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices like waste segregation and reduction. The activity raised awareness about marine pollution and inspired participants to embrace sustainable habits. A certificate of appreciation was awarded to Sto. Niño Mactan College for their active involvement in this initiative.
