On 19 June 2024, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 7 launched the Government Network also known as GovNet in the MCIAA Corporate Building.

The program opened with a Welcome Remarks from MCIAA Assistant General Manager Atty. Glenn B. Napuli, followed by a message from Regional Director of DICT Region VII, Dir. Frederick DC. Amores. The launching of GovNet was done through a speed test with the assistance of personnel from the Electronics & Communications Division (ECD). The program closed with a message of support from MCIAA General Manager and CEO, Mr. Julius G. Neri, Jr. himself.

GovNet is a project under National Broadband Plan (NBP), which aims to provide high-speed internet to government agencies and offices, schools, and hospitals. The NBP aims to ensure that all Filipinos have access to broadband capability through government investment in broadband infostructure, policy reforms and stimulation of market demand.
