In partnership with Cebu Pacific, MCIA is now home to the country’s first fully operational electric Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and bridge-mounted equipment (BME) units — helping reduce carbon emissions and set a new standard for green airport operations.
Cebu Pacific’s e-GSE units are now in full use, powered by a dedicated charging station at the airport.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, we focus on expanding infrastructure for green aviation fuels and zero-emission electric ground support equipment. We are glad to collaborate with our airline partners. Together, we are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future in global air travel,” said Atty. Julis G. Neri Jr, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Mactan Cebu Airport Authority (MCIAA).
“This milestone reflects our strong commitment to decarbonizing our operations and supporting airports that share the same sustainability goals,” said Javier Massot, CEB Chief Operations Officer. He added that CEB is the first Philippine airline to use electric equipment for a full aircraft turnaround, making it more meaningful since it was done in Cebu—where the airline started.
“Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation is dedicated to supporting green innovations that align with our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation. He said the use of electric ground support equipment at MCIA is a key step toward sustainability, and MCIA looks forward to working with airlines to make a lasting, positive impact.
MCIA is also planning to build common-use charging stations so more airlines can shift to electric equipment — another big step toward a greener, carbon-neutral airport.
